The Virtual Institute of Spintronics participates in the activities in the field of nanoelectronics and physics of nanostructures in Aachen, Göttingen as well as in Jülich.

Within the Research Centre Juelich VISel is an integral part of the Center of Nanoelectronic Systems for Information Technology (CNI).

At the RWTH Aachen the Virtual Institute of Spintronics is embedded in the RWTH-NanoClub.

In Göttingen VISel is closely connected to the Sonderforschungsbereich (Collaborative Research Centre ) SFB 602: Komplexe Strukturen in kondensierter Materie von atomarer bis mesoskopischer Skala (Complex structures in condensed matter: From atomic to mesoscopic scale).
